The SSI projects are a new element introduced in 2013, designed to engage students and postdocs on topics related to the theme of an SSI. Participants will be grouped into teams. The teams will work during the Institute and give a report during the project concluding the presentation session on the final Thursday. For larger projects with many interested participants and potential different directions of investigations, forming separate teams could be considered. SLAC Today report on SSI-2013 mini-projects can be a useful reference on how the process worked. Further examples of how the projects proceeded, you can check the past SSI page for more recent years. The final project presentations (see Indico time table) are always on the last Thursday afternoon and announcement of the prize winner for best project presentation in the final Friday session.
Signup links to the projects using Google Doc forms with two choices will be announced together with the projects shortly before the SSI starts. Some of the projects may not have enough signups to reach critical mass for a team and in which case we can regroup based on your second choices for the eventual teams at the project kick-off.
Each team will nominate at least one representative with Indico ID to allow the team to upload slides and E-mail us presenter's CERN Indico ID (if already exist). In case noone on the team has an Indcio ID, check the speaker's info page for how the Indico upload works and how to request a lightweight CERN ID online first. For the Thursday Aug/9 project presentation session, each team has a total of ~20min including ~5min for questions so that presentations should be no more than 15min.
SSI-2018 Project List
The SSI-2018 project list can be found at this link. Please use this web form to select preferred projects. During the Project kick-off session on Tuesday Jul/31, a consolidation of teams will take place interactively based on the online preferences to only preserve teams with reasonable participation level and redirect participants on topics with too few collaborators towards one of the consolidated teams.
Each team should contact us before 1:30pm on Thursday Aug/9 to nominate member(s) with Indico ID to be assigned as uploading speaker to enable the team to upload slides to Indico. Presentation arrangement:
- Each team has 15min presentation time and 10min question time. It is strongly recommended to not exceed the 15min presentation time as historically that was shown to not help to deliver the winning message, which often is better to be concise.
- Presentations can be done by a single speaker representing the team, or parade of a few or all memebers speaking to a few slides each. In any case, there should be only one set of integrated slides per team which helps the coherence and minimize speaker exchange time.
- Upload slides by 1:30pm to allow them being ready on the console desktop before the session.
